PICTURES

Images can strengthen the message in a publication and give the reader a better understanding of the text. They can also help create a certain mood and attract the reader's attention. As a graphic designer, I will help you choose appropriate images that take into account the project's target audience, purpose and style. I also want to make sure they are of high quality and have the right color palette.

We will consider the selection of images together. We will choose images that are relevant to the project's content and that fit in style and tone. The images must be of good quality and in an appropriate size so that they work well on the chosen media.

If your project is a book to be printed in offset, the images must first of all have a high resolution, preferably 300 dpi (dots per inch), in order to be printed in high quality. If the image is not high enough resolution, it may become blurry or pixelated when printed, and this may lead to a poor experience for the reader. For the printing - most often offset printing - we will also look for images in the file formats Tiff, eps or PhotoShop format psd. They are suitable. At the same time, the images must also be able to work well on a website and in an e-book (you want to publish that too, right?).

When it comes to images for digital platforms, we consider JPEG, which is the most common file format for images on websites and in e-books, as it can store images in a relatively small file size and still maintain a high quality. But other formats like PNG and GIF can also be useful in certain situations.

Finally, it is important to think about the copyrights of the selected images. If you do not have the copyrights to an image, you cannot legally use it in your project. One can either purchase licenses for the use of images or choose to use images that are under an appropriate license. Licenses often cost money.

The images that you can download on this website are free to use, as long as you respect the copyright by mentioning the photographer's name.

GRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS

Graphic illustrations, figures, and other visual effects can be of great importance to texts and presentations, as they can help highlight important messages in a visually appealing way. Infographics, which are graphical representations of data and information, can especially make complex information easy to understand.

Good illustrations and figures can also help engage the reader and make the text more interesting and attractive to read. They can help break up monotonous blocks of text and make information easier to remember when it's presented visually instead of just text.

Infographics can help the reader get an overview of a topic in a more clear and efficient way. They can also help create coherence and connection between different parts of a text and provide a better understanding of the connection between them.

All in all, good illustrations, figures and visual effects can be an invaluable part of a text-based presentation. They can help make the text more visually appealing and easy to read and understand. If used effectively, they can also help improve the reader's understanding and retention of the material presented.

ABOUT COLORS, TYPOGRAPHY, LAYOUT AND COMPOSITION IN DESIGN

An appropriate use of colors, typography, images, layout and composition provides the best visual publication. These are disciplines that must be considered as strategic components in the design of the project, especially when it comes to attracting and retaining the reader's attention.

Colors and typography are key elements, as they influence the reader's perception and feelings about the publication. The colors can be used to highlight important parts of the text or create a certain mood. It is important to take into account the target group and the purpose of the project when choosing the colors, and as a graphic designer I will also take into account a brand – if you have a VI – visual identity or brand identity that we must support.

Colors in the design

COLORS AFFECT THE READER

Examples from popular color theory are that blue color can give a feeling of calm and trust, which can be suitable for books with a serious or scientific theme. Red color can symbolize passion, energy or danger, and therefore it can be used to highlight important points in the project or create excitement.

Green color can give a feeling of peace and harmony, and it can be suitable for publications about nature or wellness. Yellow colors can symbolize joy and optimism, and it can be appropriate for publications about self-help or personal development.

When colors are used wisely, they can help highlight the project's message and strengthen the reader's understanding and engagement with the text. Together we consider which colors should be used in the design of your book and how colors should be included.

TYPOGRAPHY

It is also important to choose appropriate fonts that are easy to read and suit the style and theme of the project. Good typography makes the text easy to read, while also creating a visual hierarchy that helps the reader navigate through the text.

There are several factors that are important to achieving good typography, including:

READABILITY
The fonts must be easy to read, even at smaller sizes. There must also be sufficient contrast between text and background to ensure optimal readability.

CONSISTENCY
It is important to choose one or two fonts and stick to them consistently throughout the project. This creates a visual unity and helps the reader follow the text.

FONT SIZE AND SPACING
Font size and spacing are also important factors in achieving good readability. The font size must be appropriate for the reader's age group and any vision problems. At the same time, there must be sufficient spacing between lines and paragraphs to make the text easy to read and create visual clarity.

VISUAL HIERARCHY
Good typography creates a visual hierarchy that helps the reader navigate through the text. This is achieved by using different font sizes and weights for headings, subheadings, body text, etc.
